Weyes: AI Visual Assistant

Hey all! 👋 I’m excited to introduce Weyes, an AI Visual Assistant designed to assist the visually impaired. Say goodbye to squinting your eyes out, second-guessing, and missing the bus due to slow reaction times. Weyes helps you see things ahead by segmenting and zooming in what you are trying to see. Context 😫 As someone with a visual disability, I find myself struggling to see things small or far away, making seemingly trivial tasks hard. Tasks such as telling buses apart, telling the status of traffic lights, and reading signs for directions makes commuting a challenge for me. To work around this, I use my phone’s camera to take pictures of subjects like buses, traffic lights, and signs, then zoom in. While this helps, it felt slow. I wanted a camera smart enough to understand what I need to see and instantly zoom in without taking a photo. That’s where Weyes comes in. Key Features 🌈 - Segments and zooms in on detections. - Fast and accurate detections. - Tailored to Accessibility Needs. Helps users easily identify detected objects, and offers customisations to suit individual accessibility requirements. Road Map 🛣️ My hope for Weyes is to empower people with visual disabilities to navigate the world independently and confidently. The project is still in it's infancy. Currently, I plan to: - Implement more detectable objects including Traffic Lights and Signs. Currently only detects bus numbers to show an MVP. - Improve on accuracy of detections.
