We are really excited to introduce our brand new and totally free side project to you!
It all started in June 2018 when Collin and I were sitting in a bar at the Hamburg harbour. For a long time we had been looking for the best way to explain blockchain to non-nerds (i.e. normal people). Then one idea led to another, and we realized that almost every blockchain concept can be explained with simple examples from a fictional bar, which is not run by a bar owner, but by the guests themselves in peer-to-peer manner.
So we locked ourselves in for a long weekend and came up with TheBlockchainBar.com. It tells the story of a cosy little bar which works like a blockchain (more or less). We explain important blockchain concepts such as protocols, crypto tokens, peer-to-peer, hashing and ICOs in ten episodes to date. In each episode, a short story from the bar is supplemented by a longer educational article that makes the technology behind the cryptocurrency Bitcoin tangible and understandable even for non-experts.
Why did we do this? We believe the biggest obstacle for blockchain today is not so much around technical issues (of course, there are a lot) but rather: Winning the hearts and minds of many people. That's why we left out all nitty-gritty technical details and focused on the bigger picture: The idea behind blockchain and distributed ledger technology.
