Hi all. Franck here, Airthium's co-founder and COO.
Airthium (YC S17) makes a breakthrough heat engine to decarbonize industrial heat and electricity production.
Our first product is an industrial heat pump capable of reaching up to 1000℉ (540℃). It is a big deal because today's heat pumps are limited to 320℉ (160 ℃), and there are no green solutions to compete economically with natural-gas fired boilers and dryers. It represents 3% of the world's CO2 emissions.
Our long term goal is to use the same engine to commercialize a seasonal energy storage based on ammonia and thermal storage, tackling 30% of the world's CO2 emissions by replacing polluting fossil fuel fired power plants.
We started building Tanatloc back in 2018 for multiple reasons :
- we could not afford commercial FEA softwares like ANSYS
- the physics in our engine required multiple "bleeding edge" modules to work together (hint: they were not)
- commercial softwares are a black box and the algorithms cannot be improved by the user
Tanatloc is now in production at Airthium and used by tens of FEA engineers at DENSO, a fortune 500 japanese car parts manufacturer.
The model database is also open source and we will soon publish a code editor. In the meantime, please feel free to create and submit your finite elements models on our github, we will add them for you! We use FreeFEM in the backend (https://freefem.org), a powerful PDE solver with an easy to learn language.
