Asynchronous collaboration and communication platform for remote teams. Replace real-time meetings with recorded videos. Sodasync stitches individual videos into organized team meetings. Watch, respond and collaborate any time, any place. Goodbye timezones!
Hey @sodasync the product sure looks nice and useful but I will be a devil's advocate and share a few points as an engineer with a decade of remote work:
- I have always felt that people, me including, want to avoid being on camera
- Text is easier to send out, say when you are just getting out of bed or in a cab
- You lose search capability, convert to "to-do" capability, etc.
- Even to consume the conversation I need headphones with me all the time
These points are not say this can not work, but I am just sharing things I have noted over the years.
@sumitdatta thanks for the feedback and for sharing your personal experience!
- We certainly know that some do not like being on camera and so we made available the voice-only recording for those days when bedhead takes over :D
- Text enablement was always an option but for now, we'd like to work alongside your favorite chat apps rather than replace them (yet).
- Custom tagging, search and voice-to-text is on the roadmap and we are excited about this feature coming soon (we want to get it just right)
- As for headphones, they're optional. Like any video conference call you'd take, as long as you have speakers you're good to consume.
Once again, a huge thanks for the feedback! This is exactly why we love the Product Hunt community - willing to dig into the details we want people to be asking about. If there any other questions, observations etc, please ask!
So I LOVE the idea behind this, but I just can't get it to work well. Lots of "beachballing" and connection errors. Even with small things like adding a profile pic and changing my username. Will certainly keep my eye on it though.
(I'm using Edge as my browser)
@richard_mulholland Thanks for sending some love :D Much appreciated as we love your talks!
We're hard at work continuing to ensure our services scale successfully as the influx of usage comes our way! I'm sorry to hear you encountered a few cases of beachballing (we did try to make that loader graphic interesting to look at in cases like this!)
Edge WebRTC APIs are not quite up to par with what Chrome and Firefox has implemented and so at times the API access needs transforms to support Edge. It is generally recommended to use Chrome for the most stable/wide WebRTC support!
Hi @rrhoover! The name Sodasync is actually [S]tandups [O]bjectives [D]iscussions ASYNC. Funnily enough, it was accidentally discovered while an unnamed project and these words happened to be written on a whiteboard as the goal. The other meaning of Sodasync comes from soda being a leisurely drink. Discussions and collaboration should def not be overwhelming but a pleasant experience :D
