If you are a teacher or often give talks and you do not have a large screen or projector to show your slides then Showly is for you. With this app you can share your slides through a LAN network, so your audience can see the slides on their web browser.
Some time ago I was working as professor, but the classrooms where I worked did not have large screens or projectors, so to show my slides I had turn the screen of my laptop to my students hoping they could see the content of my slides.
But there were too many students, and some of them were too away from the screen to clearly see the contents of the slide. This problem bother me a lot, so I came up with this idea of creating Showly so my students could see the slides on the web browser of thier phones or laptops.
Currently I am not working as professor but still had the idea so I made it hoping this can be useful for poor Institutions where budget is to tight to afford needed screens or projectors.
Hey Rolando,
I love the idea of making slides accessible through a LAN network, especially in environments with limited resources.
Questions:
Can you share more about the setup process?
How easy is it for someone without much technical expertise to get started?
Congrats on the launch!
@kyrylosilin Hi. Thank you. The app is coded to recieve a slide file like those with .ppt or .pptx extension. Showly then extract every slide as an image, and make every silde image visible through a web page. Your audience and you have to be connected to the same LAN network, then your audience has to connect to your pc through your IP address and port. The app is very easy to use, you just select the slide file, the port and click on Show! button. The app will tell you what adderss your audience has to type on the search bar of their web browser. On a classroom you could create a mobile hotspot with your cellphone or laptop, or you could ask someone in your audience to create that hotspot on his device. Every body have to connect to that network and then you can start Showly.
Congratulations on the launch! It would be awesome if this could be used just as a web app that is running on one PC, and all the other nodes are connecting to it via LAN (and viewing in a browser).
@semanser Hi. Thank you. That is exactly what it does. A web server is being executed by Showly while you share your slides through LAN network. You can see at this comment https://www.producthunt.com/post...
