RubCam is a good example of how Product Hunt becomes the "dribbble for product people" as @ashbhoopathy described it on day 1 of its launch. This app may not be a "game changer" but it might provide inspiration for product creators.
Haha @rrhoover that's true, RubCam may be just a weekend app that was not really intended to be a game changer, but I think it's a "game changer" when it comes to taking selfies :)
Here are some of the benefits:
1. Because your thumb is *always* on the screen, you don't need to awkwardly balance the phone and tap. Because of that, you end up with much more stable non shaky photos.
2. Because of all the combo actions, literally, you don't need to lift a finger.
3. Since "capture" step is separate from "manipulation" steps where you actually do something with the capture, you don't need to go back to your camera roll and delete all the ones you don't like. You just need to lift your finger to cancel.
Hi I am the creator of RubCam. I built it one weekend when I was trying to take a selfie and was very frustrated how I had to balance the phone in an awkward manner and tap to take a photo. And even when I did, a lot of times I didn't like how it automatically saves to camera roll. I wanted a way to not only "take" a photo but also ways to easily manipulate them--saving, sharing, and cancelling--and built RubCam. Anyone have suggestions or questions please reply and i will answer them all. Thanks!
@tannerc Yes the volume button is much better than tapping the screen.
1. But please try taking a horizontal photo. Chances are you will be holding the phone with your thumb and index finger...and yes, shaky. I observed a lot of people taking selfies with friends at parties--a lot of times this happens to be a horizontal photo since friends are standing side by side, not stacked up vertically--and a lot of them used two hands to hold on to the phone because the grip is not good.
2. Also the default iPhone camera automatically saves your snaps to your camera roll, so people end up taking multiple photos and go back to their camera rolls later to weed out the obviously bad ones afterwards. RubCam solves this problem by letting you quickly see a preview of the capture and decide whether to save, cancel, or share. So no more cluttering your camera roll with obviously bad photos.
Hope this makes sense :)
@shellen haha i would like to know why :) But one thing for sure is that it makes the name shorter. Also I loved how a lot of people thought the name sounded "dirty", "inappropriate", etc.
@gliechtenstein I'm sure it's just a regional/US quirk but it's slang meaning definitely lends itself to misinterpretation for inappropriate uses. Google "rub cam" and you'll see what I mean.
