Been using retro for awhile now! Ryan and Nathan are keeping the dream alive that a social app can be a positive influence that makes you feel more connected with the real people in your life and inspires you to live more.
The design, copy, and experience is polished and somehow feels "high class" 🤌. No FOMO, no bots, just a simple tool to help me connect and stay up to date with the people I love. This is where I want to share my life with my friends and family.
I've been using the beta for a while and it's amazing. Love the lack of thirsting for likes and editing photos, just seeing pics of what you're friends are up to, without any fluff.
I’ve been using Retro as my main social/personal app to post updates since earlier this year. Obv I love and will always love Instagram but it’s honestly been so joyful (yes!) to have a space to see my real friends and just what they’ve been up to, and then scroll back and reflect on my own weeks as they happened. I feel no pressure to post and no judgment on my own or others’ content… just pure joy and gratitude that I see my friends are doing well, doing fun things, seeing friends and fam, living life :)
Wonderful app! Feels like a throw-back to the good ol' days of social before influencers, brands, meme-accounts et al turned the feed into The Feed (TM) where "more eyes --> more ads." Fun to post more care-free and see what my friends are actually doing.
Fast software, feels extremely well crafted making it a delight to use. Easily my favorite way to share photos with friends — sort of like perfect group-chat photo sharing, wrapped in an elegant interface, quick and easy to post / see friends' photos / comment. Been using nearly daily for the last three months as a tester and love it.
I wish I had more people in my network willing to use it, because it's really neat, thoughtful and sticky without being focused on growth metrics.
I've been using Retro for weeks now, and it's so refreshing to feel like there is a social app that is actually about.. uh... my friends? 1. I love having a place to share bits of my personal life 2. I love seeing what my friends are up to 3. I love that it feels like a less performative space. I love cracking jokes on twitter/bluesky/threads, but this is just about sharing my life (for me).
