What do you think? …

I see this as a cross between Chrome Audio and something like Amazon Echo. For me CA is actually better in the sense that it's way cheaper and you can hide it behind the amp. Also, what happens if/ when I stop paying 39 a year? The machine stops working? Sell me the product, don't tie me in.

@pointandstare Thank you for your comment. The 1st year of music is included. After that, our users can renew their access to the catalogue, or decide to continue with a free offer. The only difference is Prizm using webradios streams as the music source.

I think this is a nifty idea, but their approach seems a little odd. It doesn't connect to Spotify, Apple Music or any other streaming service. You have to start your collection from scratch and subscribe to their service if you want the entire catalog. Since it doesn't integrate with my streaming service of choice I now have two collections I need to take care of. That's a bummer. It also doesn't connect to Sonos, Google Cast or any other Wifi based speaker system. It only works with line-in or bluetooth speakers. To benefit from their USP all my friends need their app (and subscription?) to collaborate on music selection. Again, I think it's a cool idea, but I would never go through the trouble of setting all this up.

@gopietz Thanks for your precise analysis and relevant remarks! • It doesn't connect to Spotify, Apple Music or any other streaming service. That is our challenge since the beginning of the project, it actually was the idea at first, but streaming services, unfortunately and despite their interest for what Prizm does, didn’t show much implication into partnerships : / But we’d love to make more connections with them in the future, and we’re still working on it. Meanwhile, we decided to provide Prizm’s own music catalogue, to allow anyone to enjoy the full experience, even people who don’t use streaming services. • To benefit from their USP all my friends need their app (and subscription?) to collaborate on music selection. With 1 Prizm unit, the number of user profiles is unlimited. Everyone can create a profile for free in seconds, and join the audience to “add their tastes” to the music selection. So the subscription is per device : the device accesses the catalogue, regardless of the number of listeners.

@meetprizm @gopietz "So the subscription is per device" wow! even worse. In our house we might have something like 10 devices that would connect. No way am I going to create 10 accounts AND pay for them like this. Good try, I think, but it's way off the mark. I'm out.

@meetprizm let me just think out loud. your potential market consists of music lovers, who have an eye for technology, who don't have a streaming service yet or are willing to have a second one, who don't have a wifi based speaker system yet or are willing to have a second one, who are willing to spend $150 on a single streaming device and who have friends to whom these assumptions also apply. those people you have to find and persuade that your technology works. tough game, but best of luck.

@pointandstare @gopietz sorry it wasn't clear, the subscription is per Prizm. 1 Prizm device, unlimited number of user profiles.

Great design and an interesting promise of finding the best tunes for any situation. Does it apply the algorithmic selecting to your own music library as well, or only from the Prizm music library?

@airjoshb Thank you for your nice words. About your question : the system needs to work with songs metadata, so it can handle the collection and make choices, that is why Prizm needs to work with a standardized set of songs today. We’re developing Prizm’s own catalogue, partnering with music labels. It already counts millions of songs and will continue to grow in the months to come!
