I use the pcWRT router for parental controls. Prior to this I was using Netgear Circle, which was buggy and slow. And I had to pay a monthly fee. The pcWRT router provides lots of control options and the functions are solid. No impact on network speed either!

The setup was pretty straightforward because the router also has built-in Dynamic DNS support. To be on the safe side, I actually set up three VPN servers, one for each protocol supported by the router. Just in case one protocol fails, I can try the other two protocols. But so far I only needed to use the WireGuard connection.
