Hey PH 😽! Podcast discovery is broken. @alexcartaz @rrhoover @eriktorenberg @rstankov @stephnbain valiantly tackled it with Product Hunt Podcasts. The prolific @mubashariqbal followed up with Pod Hunt. Here's our attempt 💪💪💪. Palcast is "Spotify Wrapped for Podcasts" with a social twist. Connect your Spotify to find your top podcasts, categories and hours spent listening. Share the report with friends and receive a report comparing your stats and find out which shows and episodes you've listened to in common! Our goal is to find a way to make podcasts more social and spark conversations between friends. This is built on top of the Spotify Podcast API that allows us to get into some of the detailed listen data as opposed to just subscriptions and downloads. 👋 Hey everyone! Thanks SO much for checking out what we built! 🙏 This was really fun to build and more challenging than we anticipated. We had to come up with some clever caching for podcasts and episodes that users have listened to because of what's available in the early Spotify Podcast API. Happy to answer any questions! Didn't have a chance to put up a frontend for this, but if you've been thinking about moving over to Spotify for Podcasts, we also made a script to import an OPML file and follow those shows in Spotify! Let us know if that'd be interesting to you! What's been most surprising is how long the long tail of podcast episodes that our friends listen to has been. Usually, when you ask people for Podcast recommendations, you get the equivalent of Top 40 music: Joe Rogan, How I Built This, The Michelle Obama Podcast, etc. While those are great podcasts, there has been an explosion of amazing podcasts recently— it's just hard to give a recommendation for a specific episode!
