Hi Product Hunters
Steve here, the creator of Org.ly.
This is my first experience as an entrepreneur and my first ever product launch. It’s quite exciting :-)
I’ve been in technology sales forever, and have always been frustrated with the experience of creating org charts of my customers. It’s really important that we, as sales professionals, understand them, but why does it have to be so hard? So I eventually decided to fix the problem myself.
The key focus of Org.ly is to fix the things that are wrong with Org Charts today. Sure, number one on the list is that you mainly use Powerpoint to create them and that is a rubbish experience, but actually, the biggest realisation I’ve come to over the years is that Org Charts aren’t for sales professionals, they are for sales managers. We create them just to put in our Account Plans and never look at, or update, ever again.
The mission then, was to create a tool that provides what Sales Professionals actually want in terms of Contact Management and Org Chart creation - for me, it falls into these four areas
- Something that is easy to update on the fly, so we are always up to date.
- Something we can carry with us all the time for easy reference.
- Something that allows us to instantly see who reports to who throughout our customer.
- Something that will create the traditional Org Chart automatically for inclusion in Account Plans, etc.
And this is what I think I’ve achieved with Org.ly.
I know that this perhaps isn’t the optimal product to be launching on Product Hunt, but I’m really excited to launch Org.ly here, and can’t wait to here what you all think.
*Product Hunt Exclusive:* Org.ly is a paid app with a price of $3.99. The first 50 Product Hunters to visit the website will be able to get a copy of Org.ly for free.
Good job with the app. I think it was nice to have my contacts ordered by company as a first impression. Now it's impossible to understan why it's not like that in standard iPhone!
Just some features I'd like to have, fetch profile pics from linkedin or fb, import/export orgcharts (the relations), navigate to a contact in an org chart.
I'm a consultant, and have similar need for org sharts as sales only it would be great to label or add hirachies, and also build more hirarchies or sub organizations/projects.
Great app for keeping track of people. I've never succeeded to keep track of where everyone is in the organization, and this feels promising as it's using the phone contacts. Thanks!
@mikaellowgren Hi Mikael - thanks for your comments. I'm glad you like it!
It seemed logical to me that we use our existing phone contacts for this - we carry them with us all the time, after all.
The importing of images from LinkedIn is already in the roadmap, as is the creation of matrix/project teams in addition to the formal org structure. Not quite sure when they'll get delivered - I'm still working on the prioritision of the roadmap.
A question about what you've said about navigating around the org chart? Do you mean the ability to tap on someone in the org chart and go directly to them? If so, I've addressed this slightly differently. Once you've added Reports to a Contact you can see them all along the scroll bar at the bottom, right? If you then drag/drop one of these reports into the middle of the screen they will become the 'main contact' and you will then see their reports along the bottom scroll bar. Swiping on them will reveal their Org Chart. By the same token, you can swipe down on the main contact to see their Manager, etc. This way you can swipe up/down through the hierarchy easily, and then swipe left to reveal the Org Chart when needed. Does that address your question, or did I misunderstand?
You can see this in action on this video: https://youtu.be/fQSlf1r_vUQ
@steve_brigden1 Great! I think the linkedin integration will be awesome, looking forward to that.
I think you answered what I was looking for, only on a contact you would only see direct reporting. In the org chart you would have a better overview. But it's perhaps a special case if you have very complex org charts. I'm currently in a program with several sub projects comprising teams from business and it-delivery side, so I think my charts will have several levels. I'll give it a try!
