Minilog is a lightweight solution for tracking application logs and events. With no installation and no libraries required, you can start sending logs right away with a basic HTTP POST request.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I'm excited to introduce Minilog, a web service designed to make logging and event notifications as simple as possible.
It started out as a thing I built for my own use, then a few friend developers started to use it, so now I'm making it available to everybody.
Minilog is a lightweight, no-fuss solution for tracking application logs and events. With no installation and no libraries required, you can start sending logs right away with a basic HTTP POST request.
You can also send custom events and receive real-time push notifications for important system activities, ensuring you're always in the loop.
🛠 Key Features:
📤 Effortless Setup: No need to install anything or worry about complicated configurations. Just make an HTTP POST request to start logging.
🔔 Instant Notifications: Get notified on your phone or desktop whenever something important happens in your system.
📊 Centralized Monitoring: View and manage all your logs and events in one simple dashboard.
🐳 Docker Compatibility: Minilog works seamlessly with Docker out of the box (Splunk logging driver support).
📦 Event Tracking: Send custom events (e.g., completed cron jobs, payment failures) and stay on top of key activities.
👨💻 Who is it for?
- Developers looking for a fast and simple way to monitor application logs.
- DevOps teams using Docker who need quick log management.
- Startups that want real-time notifications for system events without extra setup.
💬 I would love your feedback!
I love to hear your thoughts, feedback, and ideas! If you have any questions or suggestions, drop them in the comments.
Thanks!
Thomas
@thomas_lauv Kudos on the debut of Minilog! The seamless integration and ease of use are particularly impressive. I'm eager to see how the notification system stands up to the demands of diverse projects. Could you elaborate on the customization features for the alerts? It's crucial for a system like this to offer fine-tuned control to prevent alert overload. I'm also curious about what's next on the roadmap for Minilog's development.
@thomas_lauv seems super powerful, loved what you've shared. Forwarding this to my development team and tech bros, will get back if there's any feedback/suggestions. All the best
Thanks @owenfar, this is good point, I will update the landing page.
Database and backups are currently encrypted at rest. There is no mechanism that automatically remove or obfuscate sensitive information from the logs but this is something I want to implement in the future.
Hi :) The idea is great, I've been looking for something simple like this (hopefully open source 😅) for a while, and ended up building something custom.
I might be interested to move to minilog, but as it's not self hosted, could you give more info about privacy and what control do we have over our data ? Logs may often be sensitive for a company
@melmouk Hi Matt, database and backups are currently encrypted at rest but there is no mechanism that automatically remove or obfuscate sensitive information from the logs. This is something I want to implement in the future. After the retention period logs are permanently removed and deleting a project also permanently remove all logs and events.
@gdbroman Thank you so much ! It uses web push notifications. You need to click the bell on the top right corner and accept the browser notification popup. On Android and iOS you also need to add Minilog to your home page for notifications to work. I need to make it more clear on the landing page and documentation.
