What do you think? …

We have plans to add a features for translate images on web pages. Text will recognized locally, so images will never sent over internet. Then, detected text will be translated with translator you prefer, and eventually image will be re-rendered with translated text and replaced. Also, user will be able to copy text of images. What other features do you miss in translators?

@vitonsky Love the launch. Would you mind elaborating on what privacy concerns/issues there are with other in-browser translator?
Robert Vitonsky
@mikekerzhner sure, it's good question! The key problem is they all send your data to remote servers. If you wish to translate sensitive data like your private messages, emails, or even Jira/Wiki/Dashboard with tickets in your company that are not public - all texts you translate will be sent to third-party services like Google, DeepL, etc. It is a problem that users do not have options to translate texts securely and privately. With Linguist Translate, now we can. Linguist has popular translators like Google Translate too, but it also provides a Bergamot Translator that translates your texts locally on your device, so nobody sees your private texts. Linguist lets users choose the translation service they prefer; they are not locked out by embedded translators! Users may add custom translators to use translation services that are not embedded in Linguist. For example, users may use ChatGPT as a translator or use some third-party service that complies with their company. You may even deploy any machine translation locally and use this service as a custom translator with Linguist!

@vitonsky thanks for the explanation. Makes a ton of sense.

One area I think could be improved is the integration of more language options. It would be even more useful if there were support for additional languages. Overall, this is a fantastic tool and I’m excited to see where you take it next.
Robert Vitonsky
@hardouin_alba sure, we work to add a new languages for offline translator. Thanks for your comment
