Hello, Hackers. Phone theft in London can strike in a heartbeat. I know because I saw it happen. My partner's phone was snatched right before my eyes. A woman, posing as a lost tourist from Eastern Europe, asked for help. We were polite. We helped. Two minutes later… the phone was gone. It was the latest iPhone—an iPhone 16. We turned to the police. We hoped for answers. Nothing came. In a flash, my partner lost everything—chat history, irreplaceable childhood photos, and even access to bank accounts. All gone. Just like that. Every six minutes, a phone vanishes in London. The police are overwhelmed, the laws are weak. And suddenly, it wasn’t just bad luck. Three more friends lost their phones around the same time. I became paranoid. Eyes scanning the streets. Noticing electric bikes. Black hoodies. I stopped using my phone outside. Fear crept in. Every time. I was exhausted. Sick of it. So, I built something. A simple tool to check how safe my area is for phone thefts. https://ismyphonesafe.co.uk lets you see where the risks are high—so you know where to be careful. It’s not perfect. But it gives me peace of mind. I know where to stay alert. Where thieves strike. P.S. This is my first Product Hunt post. I’m sure there are bugs. If you spot one, drop a comment. Let me know how I can make this tool better. Stay safe out there. You—and your phone.

@satya_botcha interesting app, how do you get that information? Congrats on the launch, BTW! 🚀
Satya Botcha
@dfodev Hi David. Are you referring to the crime data in your area?
David Fernández
@satya_botcha yes, correct! Do you get the data from some API? Just curious
Satya Botcha
@dfodev Here you go: https://data.police.uk/docs/ You just need to filter crime data by type & location.
David Fernández
@satya_botcha cool!! Thank you Satya 😄

Hi, congrats! You are in a very narrow niche:)) But this is super helpful for me personally as I just moved to London:))
Ekaterina Ulianova
And I just checked my postcode, the likelihood is low:)) Did you analyze historical data on such crimes? Is it publicly available?
Satya Botcha
@ekulianova Definitely! I built it to solve my paint point, not trying to monetize or make it big. Just hoping people in the UK (especially London) benefit from it.
Satya Botcha
@ekulianova The data is up to date for the last month. So your postcode will show crimes for the month of September. I had the option to analyse historical data but realised it's an overkill. Since crimes tend to be dynamic, changing every month. As an end user, I just want to know how safe is my area, if unsafe, where are the likely theft hotspots to be aware. P.S. Central London has the high phone theft rate since criminals make the most bang for time.

This is a great tool for both Londoners and tourists ! Do you plan to do similar apps for other cities in the UK or Europe in the future by any chance ?
Satya Botcha
@brijs The tool works for cities across the UK, besides Scotland. Not sure about Europe.
