Inbox Pause 2.0 by Boomerang
Quiet your inbox, amplify your focus
Reclaim your focus and say goodbye to email anxiety with Inbox Pause by Boomerang. What's new in 2.0? Automate pausing and unpausing your inbox with weekly schedules. Set clear work/life boundaries, do deep work, and protect the time that’s important to you.
I tend to get down the rabbit hole of new incoming emails when I am trying to look up something in my inbox. It’s easy for me to get sucked back into the allure of staying on top of new emails as they come in without doing the real work I need to get done.
We built Inbox Pause to keep us out of this “last in, first out” cycle. It worked so well that when our users asked us to let them set up weekly pause schedules, we listened and built Inbox Pause 2.0.
Here are the types of schedules you can create in this 2.0 version of Inbox Pause:
⏰ Work hours: Only allow new emails to come in when you’re working, and protect your downtime when you’re off the clock.
🖊️ Focus time: If you believe in carving out Maker Time in your calendar, this is for you. Personally I carve out 2 afternoons a week for my strategic work.
📧Batched delivery: This was already in our old Inbox Pause but we made it a lot more powerful and flexible in terms of scheduling. If you want to only check emails a few times a day and keep your inbox paused most of the time, this is for you. If you’re a fan of Tim Ferris' 4 Hour Work Week, this is the approach described in the book.
➡️Mix-and-match: If you know your weekly rhythm and want to customize exactly how your inbox should work, you can set up a schedule like:
Mon, Wed: Unpause your inbox at 8:30am; pause at 1pm for lunch; unpause at 2pm; pause at 6pm
Tue, Thur: Unpause at 8am; pause at 1pm; batch delivery at 5pm
Fri: Unpause at 8:30am; pause at 1pm; unpause at 3pm; pause at 4:30pm
Sat, Sun: Keep the inbox paused all day; batch delivery at 11am
You can set exceptions so that emails with important keywords or from important people get your attention immediately.
What’s unique about this?
We stop emails from coming to any of your devices at the account level. If you have Inbox Pause set up on your web email client, your phone will not get pings unlike some of the extensions out there. We also have our mobile apps for you to pause/unpause your emails on the go.
We also made the first team and enterprise level solution for companies and teams that want to enable their employees to combat digital burnout.
Many team leaders talk about respecting employees’ personal time and their right to disconnect. They may even make wellness policies that sit on paper. With Inbox Pause, we are providing every CEO and team leader an easy, simple way to implement what they have been preaching. You can pause all incoming emails for your employees outside of work hours and set a company wide default policy. We’re hopeful that the next generation of team and company leaders will see how tools like Boomerang can help their teams reduce stress and be less distracted by constant bombardment of new emails.
Where can I get this?
You can get Inbox Pause in your inbox by installing Boomerang on Gmail and Outlook, or through the Boomerang iOS and Android apps.
@ayemoah i have been a long-term user of this app and i really appreciate what it does. This upgrade seems to be all the more exciting. I am trying this for sure!
Congratulations on the launch Ayemoah 🎉
This is a very interesting concept.
For people who are interested in Inbox Pause, but may be nervous about missing very important, time-sensitive messages, what would be your advice for them?
@jgani Hi Jonni, yes, definitely that's a common question we get. You can set up exceptions by domain or keywords or sender. Once people try it, they continue to maintain the exception list over time. we have never heard from long time users that they missed time-sensitive messages once they have honed the exception list!
I started using this tool two weeks ago and immediately noticed that I was calmer and had more time for other tasks. It's worth using - it definitely makes life easier.
