1year+ of work went into the new version. To celebrate it's launch Fireship made a free 10min tutorial on building a Chat dApp with it & Svelte! Biggest update of new GUN is it handling 5K messages/second end-to-end between browser with 0 lag to your app's UI!
@karanganesan & @owens hunted GUN in the past. This time I'm proud to announce the new version 1year+ in the making!
GUN protects the internet, it is a cybersecurity protocol for syncing p2p graph data. You can think of it like a Decentralized Dropbox, or an Open Source Firebase.
Since last on ProductHunt countless new versions have been released, but after crossing 60 M I L L I ON monthly installs, we had to rewrite GUN from scratch to handle better scale and performance.
This is that announcement! Now out!
This version also means the beginning of an official Rust version, coming ahead, for programmers.
Non-developers will be excited to hear GUN was chosen to be part of Twitter's Bluesky community, with a lot of new decentralized web3 apps to try (check out https://blueskycommunity.net/ ).
Iris is an Instagram replacement. Meething is an encrypted Zoom alternative.
Open Virtual Grid is a decentralized version of Facebook's Horizon, including infinite game world loading in-browser ( https://twitter.com/marknadal/st... )!
You can even recover your account now via a #3FA "forgot password" system without needing any servers! ( https://twitter.com/marknadal/st... )
That, and so much more! I hope you enjoy this new release. Faster, safer, and as always: free, Open Source, and devoted to preserving user's freedom & privacy with a decentralized web! As always, if you need help, just let us know!
Run your own benchmark to test how fast the new version of GUN is! `npm install gun && cd ./node_modules/gun && mocha test/panic/chat.js` (may need to install mocha & other dev modules first, follow the instructions in the terminal). Or check out the 5K msgs/second demo on my 2015 Macbook Air here: https://twitter.com/marknadal/st... (M1 is reporting up to 30K msgs/sec!)
is there a long term support because i have an idea for social network (niche community) and i want to use it for years instead of firebase, hasura, supabase ? and what is the diff to web-rtc / socket.io ... sorry if it is a dumb question
