Food& is an experimental magazine that explores unusual encounters with food. With Food&, we want to expand the conversation on food and the culinary industry by placing our readers in an unexpected environment.
This is a bit of an unusual one, but I am excited to share it with the PH community as a long-standing personal project and my first PH launch 🤗
Food& is an experimental food magazine that some friends and I started back in 2016. We have since managed to publish 9 issues alongside our normal lives working in tech, the latest one being Food& Spectacle. We distribute worldwide across some of the best indie magazine stores and we've had hundreds of collaborators across all continents; fantastic creative individuals without whom we would have never managed to pull out such great issues. We are truly grateful to our contributors, many of whom have become friends and source of inspiration 🫶
The seed for the project was planted during a visit to a big Aquarium in Japan, as we stood admiringly between a tank of whale sharks and a tourist family innocently eating from a pack of sushi. The irony and absurdity of the situation (🖖 hello humans!) triggered us to explore the relationship between food and unusual topics. For us, food has always been much broader, complex and confusing than what most "food" magazines were publishing at the time.
Our editorial process is to agree on a theme (eg. Love) and give an assignment to all short of creative people and via an open call. The only rule is to maintain some kind of relationship between the chosen theme and food (eg. food and gravity, food and patents, food and love...).
