I’ve been a user of Mastin Labs’ Lightroom presets for years now. But Mastin Labs’ new project takes mobile photography further, bringing the rich history and technique of film photography exclusively to the iPhone (and eventually Android)
I spoke with Kirk Mastin, the CEO of Mastin Labs and he said their goal with Filmborn is not to replace film, but to preserve the look of it for the digital future of photography, while also educating people about shooting film. By offering a true-to-film experience on the iPhone we will introduce a new generation of photographers to the beauty and timelessness of film. Their hope is that people who are unfamiliar with real film will fall in love with its look and begin shooting it, helping to keep film photography alive through digital/film photography.
Filmborn offers the ability to easily replicate popular Fuji, Kodak and Ilford films, straight from your phone - with no problem.
Really excellent app. I can see me using this a lot as my go to camera app. I'd love to see an iPad version focused on the processing side of things too, although I get that that might be damaging to Mastin Labs Lightroom/ACR preset business.
