Farmshare brings the best of farmers markets to you: transparency, quality, and connection, but with ecomm convenience. We are modernizing agriculture for a sustainable and equitable future. Real, trustworthy food shipped directly from the farm to your door.
Hello Product Hunt community,
We're thrilled to introduce Farmshare, a marketplace where conscious consumers meet independent food producers. Our mission is to support local agriculture by providing essential business services and tools that farmers need to compete in today's market.
In the age of convenience and instant gratification, supporting small, local farms can be challenging. We're working to change that by making locally sourced, high-quality food more accessible, and by providing a platform where farmers, ranchers, fishers, and other food producers can thrive.
Farmshare is more than just an online grocery store. We're building a community that cares about the origin of their food, the livelihood of small-scale producers, and the health of our planet.
We would love to hear your feedback and answer any questions you may have. So feel free to drop a comment, send a message, or share your thoughts. Thank you for being a part of our journey!
Best,
Henry
?makers Isn't the challenge with products like this getting it to your market (i.e. farmers)? I don't want to overgeneralize, because I know that many farmers have adopted technologies to run their farms, but do you have evidence that farmers have the capacity to maintain an ecommerce presence on a platform like this?
Like, this seems analogous to Airbnb Experiences, but in that case it makes a little more sense since experience providers need to advertise themselves constantly in order to be found... it seems like the work of being a farm is more concerned with farming than marketing or digital promotion.
Also, curious about the business model — what % of each sale does your platform take?
What's it been like working with Sweater?
@chrismessina, thank you for your thoughtful comment!
Our experience over the past month has shown our proposition clearly resonates with the supply side, farms. In fact, we have already seen over 10 organic farm signups per week since our launch, clearly indicating a demand from farms to have an online presence.
You're right that many farmers are primarily concerned with farming, and that's where we come in. We aim to take the burden of digital marketing and promotion off their shoulders so they can focus on what they do best – farming. We provide the platform that gives them direct access to customers, helping them increase their exposure.
Furthermore, successful platforms like Barn2Door and GrazeCart have demonstrated that farmers are indeed ready and capable of maintaining an online presence. However, where these platforms often fall short is in generating substantial customer exposure and creating efficient direct-to-market access, and this is where we aim to excel.
As for our business model, we are a services business for farms, and therefore do not take a percentage of each sale. Our goal is to provide value to the farmers and to support their growth. Think SaaS, vendors services, and capital products.
Working with Sweater has been fantastic. They are continuously contributing to the venture capital space in innovative ways. Their team is a joy to collaborate with.
Thanks again for the great comment!
