Esplora is a new way to discover what's happening on Twitter. It's a Reddit-like experience that brings together the conversations you care about most, into dedicated communities that are easy to follow.
Hi Product Hunt community 👋
I'm Alankrit, a software developer and occasional indie-hacker. I am very excited to announce the launch of a side-project I put together over the past couple of months: Esplora - a Reddit-like Twitter client. 🐦 👽
I started my career in software working for Twitter back in 2014 in the new user experiences team. I had tried to use Twitter before but not quite figured out the right way to find the best accounts and content to follow. Over the years as I learnt how to use Twitter effectively, I realized what a powerful platform it is. I have come across life-changing advice on Twitter on all sorts of topics varying from startups/health-and-fitness/childcare/productivity etc. 💪 👶
That said, I always wished for a better way to organize the information I come across on Twitter, so that if I want to learn or research about a particular topic, I can just dive right in like how you'd do with a Reddit community. 🏊♂️ 🕵️♂️
I had curated a few of my own lists of accounts organized by topics I track regularly. I also came across this product https://hive.one/ where the team has done a fantastic job of identifying the top Twitter communities along with their most notable creators. 👯 🐝
Thus, I created Esplora picking a few popular Twitter lists and Hive.one to create a Reddit-like experience for Twitter. You can get a taste of all the best content across all these communities by hanging out on the trending page: https://esplora.io/trending, or see the entire listing here: https://esplora.io/communities/all. Within each community, you can learn about it very easily going through all the tweets, threads, members or using the Search feature. 🔍 📖 🔭
Some of my favorite communities to hangout on Esplora (out of the 150+) that you can check out:
- Machine Learning: https://esplora.io/community/mac...
- Product Leaders: https://esplora.io/community/pro...
- Philosophy: https://esplora.io/community/phi...
- Indie Hackers: https://esplora.io/community/ind...
- Health and Fitness: https://esplora.io/community/hea...
Lastly, for fellow developers, I wanted to give a shoutout to a new library I used to power a lot of the frontend features: https://htmx.org/. It gives to access to AJAX, CSS transitions, websockets directly in HTML, so you can code a fairly complex UX without needing to use a javascript framework like React. 🤟 😎
Looking forward to feedback from the PH community if they found Esplora helpful and what features they'd like to see added! 🙌 🔥
@alankritchona this is really interesting. I was an early adopter of Twitter but I move further away from the platform every year because I find it harder and harder to maintain focus on the communities and topics I actually care about. I am excited to continue exploring. Maybe this is the tool that allows me to stay connected and not miss out on stuff I want to know but without feeling overloaded from the general feed.
@rolanddeep Thanks for trying it out! This is exactly what I built it for, consume the best content on Twitter without feeling like you're facing a fire-hose :)
