**edit** Ah, I see they claim it can attach to most laptops -- not specifically designed for Macs? So this is for Mac users who do not need a display in vertical/portrait orientation. That's getting a little niche, when one can get a very portable, USB-powered DisplayLink display, configure it horizontally or vertically, and use it with their Linux or Windows-running ThinkPad, in addition to their Mac.

@cacarr Yes, this can be used on most laptops, not only Macs. You can orientate the display in any direction.

I don't need a second horizontal display, I need a vertical display for a text editor. Cheap, portable USB-powered DisplayLink displays exist, that are cheaper and more versatile.

Pros:

Elegant solution for a horizontal second display

Cons:

No vertical/portrait orientation

@jackyao82432526: I've read you also support Linux, will it need a DisplayLink[1][2] driver ? USB monitor support in Linux is pretty experimental (mainly from vendors not providing open specs), requiring you to download version-specific binaries, and alike. Also "Linux" support itself should be clarified re: which actual distros are supported, unless the driver exists upstream, hence my question above. Thanks! --jjo [1] https://wiki.archlinux.org/index... [2] http://www.displaylink.com/downl...

@jackyao82432526 can you provide any details on this (USB chipset and driver needed for Linux) ?
