The Story Behind Doola ❤️
Like many great innovations, Doola was born from a deeply personal experience.
I met my wife through Hinge. What caught my attention wasn't just her profile - it was a photo of her jumping that stood out from the typical dating app poses. I liked that photo, and miraculously, she liked me back. ✨
Our connection was instant. From late-night conversations spanning culture to tech, waiting up until 10 PM just to chat with her became my new habit. Two weeks in, we had our first date at a café in a shopping mall, talking until closing time. ☕
Our relationship moved at lightning speed. ⚡ Within weeks, we were discussing meeting parents and marriage. Two months after our first message, we were planning our wedding in a beautiful chapel in Bali. 💍
Life had other plans, though. My wife got pregnant, I lost my job, and shortly after, we experienced the devastating loss of our first baby. 💔 During those dark days, we leaned on each other, growing even closer through our shared grief. Despite the odd timing, I proposed with a custom ring I'd been waiting for.
We had our wedding in Bali as planned, and soon after, my wife got pregnant again. 🤰 That's when the idea for Doola began to take shape.
From Personal Need to Product 💡
During her pregnancy, my wife became increasingly concerned about ingredient safety in everyday products. The stress from deciphering complex ingredient lists and the clutter of menu items, to constantly researching what was safe became overwhelming. I watched as she spent hours researching ingredients, taking photos of products at stores to look up later, and feeling anxious about making the wrong choice. There had to be a better way! 🔍
Drawing on my background in technology, I created Doola Scans - an app that instantly scans photos of ingredient labels and within seconds tells pregnant women what's safe, questionable, or potentially harmful. What started as a personal solution for my wife evolved into something that could help millions of expecting mothers worldwide. 🌎
What Doola Does 📱
Doola uses advanced image recognition to scan ingredient lists on food and cosmetic products, instantly analyzing them for pregnancy safety. With a simple photo, expecting mothers can:
• Get clear safety indicators for each ingredient ✅❓🚫
• Understand complex scientific names in plain language 📖
• Save product history for future reference 📝
• Make confident decisions while shopping or dining 🛒🍽️
The premium version offers unlimited scans, cosmetic product analysis, and AI-powered scanning for any type of product or menu. ⭐
Why It Matters 💪
Pregnancy can be stressful enough without worrying about hidden ingredients. Doola gives expecting mothers peace of mind, helping them protect their babies from unknown risks of harsh chemicals. 👶
This app launches on March 21st - my wife's 38th birthday - as my gift to her and to all the other expecting mothers who deserve simple tools for making safe choices. 🎁
I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback. Doola was born from love and shaped by loss, creating something meaningful from our journey. I hope it brings peace of mind to expecting mothers everywhere. 💕
The Bigger Vision 🚀
While developing Doola, a grander vision began to take shape. What started as a personal solution has evolved into something more ambitious. The journey continues at https://doola.ai — still under construction, but growing steadily into a comprehensive platform enhanced with AI capabilities to support expecting parents and families in each of their own unique experiences. ✨ I'm incredibly excited to watch this seed of an idea, born from love and necessity, blossom into something that could transform how expecting mothers navigate their pregnancy and parenting journey. This is just the beginning... 🌟
@doola Congrats! What a journey. I am a new expecting mother myself so keen to see how it all maps out.
Great idea and a very touching story behind the app. ❤️
Wow, what a beautiful story behind Doola! ❤️ As someone with several friends navigating pregnancy right now, this app sounds like exactly what they need. The anxiety around product safety during pregnancy is real, and having an instant scanner to decode those complex ingredient lists is brilliant.
I'm curious - does Doola provide any educational content about why certain ingredients are flagged as unsafe during pregnancy? It would be amazing if users could learn about the "why" behind the recommendations as they use the app.
Can't wait to see how this grows. Wishing you and your family all the best, and congratulations on turning a personal challenge into something that will help so many expecting mothers!
