Hey Product Hunt! I’m on the Growth team at dbt Labs. I’ve always loved the Product Hunt community, full of passionate makers and early adopters! So I am thrilled to share the newest release of dbt’s VS Code extension with you today! This is the best way to develop locally in dbt, harnessing the power of dbt’s new Fusion engine. With Fusion, dbt can emulate your cloud data warehouse locally and reason about your code with the intelligence of a modern compiler. This brings you a dbt-native IDE experience with faster parse times, intelligent autocomplete for SQL functions, real-time error validation and more.
To me, this release brings the best parts of working at dbt together: a new developer experience built with the community in mind. Throughout the beta period for our VS Code extension, I’ve watched our team collaborate directly with the community, fixing over 700 bugs and improvements! As part of this release, we are also rolling out a new language server to dramatically improve compilation in VS code, particularly important for large-scale dbt projects with significant introspection query usage. We could not have done that without the support of our community throughout the beta process and without the dedication of our engineering and product teams!
With the new VS Code extension we’re introducing a better developer experience, making dbt dramatically faster and more enjoyable for developers everywhere.

👋 Hey everyone, I’m on the Developer Experience team at dbt Labs. I’ve been working with members of our community and our engineering team throughout the public beta process for dbt Fusion and I am so excited to share the launch of dbt’s VS Code extension with you today.
The VS Code extension is designed to be the best way to develop with dbt in your local environment. With dbt’s new Fusion engine, dbt can emulate your cloud data warehouse locally and reason about your code with the intelligence of a modern compiler. That means a snappier development experience, real-time error validation, and staying in your flow 😎. The VS Code extension takes that a step further, giving you a native dbt development environment, with real time error detection, lineage, visibility and smart autocompile, all powered by dbt Fusion.
⚡ 30x faster parse times than dbt Core for parsing
✅ Provides local query validation so you can catch errors before you run
🪄 Powers the new dbt VS Code extension with autocomplete, refactoring, CTE previews, and more
Our goal: make building with dbt dramatically faster, more reliable, and more enjoyable for developers everywhere.
Would love your feedback! Join us in dbt’s Community Slack to learn from others and get guidance as you build with Fusion.
