Hey Hunters and Makers 👋
I'm Kasper, creator of chalk.ist. It's free and open source tool which will help you create beautiful images of your code.
How does it compare to other tools of this type?
- you can install it as PWA - UI was designed to look and feel like native app - not like a website
- you can add twitter badge with your picture, name and username
- color themes were crafted by hand, you won't find them in other tools
- you can turn on diff mode to present changes
- it's open source so you can tailor it to your needs!
I would love to get your feedback and suggestions ❤️
Looks really cool! But how is our data handled? What is the chance the code can be found on snippet websites? What is the privacy policy and TOS for using this?
I saw there are analytics on but no GDPR info or prompt to ask users about what they accept or not (for EU only).
Also this error in the console if adblocker is used: Access to XMLHttpRequest at 'https://umami.kasper.io/api/collect' from origin 'https://chalk.ist' has been blocked by CORS policy: No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource.
No cookies though, that's nice :)
@jefawk Thanks! Sorry for missing ToS and Privacy, here's a short info on what's tracked and what's not:
- all data is stored in browser localStorage
- there are basic analytics based on https://umami.is/
- these actions are tracked: export type(copy to clipboard, download as PNG), selected language, selected theme
- code is not sent anywhere, it's saved in browser
- analytics are available at https://umami.kasper.io/share/WC...
Project is fully transparent and open source, no cookies are used so I'm not sure if GDPR consent is needed(also it's PITA)
@idered Thank you for answering.
If analytics dont track "personal data" like geolocation data and there are no cookies stored/used, I don't think there must be any GDPR warning indeed.
Best of luck with the project!
