My name is Misha and I’m the founder of Carrus.io. I’d like to share a bit about where the idea for Carrus came from, and why I started this 3 years ago with my 2 co-founders.
A bit about me: At the start of my career, I spent four years working in corporate recruitment helping big tech companies like Amazon, Facebook, Google, etc. hire for sales, marketing and product. This was in Tokyo, where I now live. It was an amazing experience, and I learned a ton!
At the same time, I always felt there was some asymmetry in this whole process. You can watch youtube videos and Google job search advice online, but I knew that this really wasn’t what would help you stand out as a candidate. There were a couple of realizations which led me to identify a real problem that eventually led to building Carrus.io
The first realization I had: For most people looking for a job, the playing field was not level.
For example, some job seekers had friends who worked at the companies and could get a referral. Others had access to a ton of insights and tips on these roles and interviews from their network (their friends would even spend hours coaching them). Or, sometimes people get lucky and have an internal recruiter who really cares about your success vs. a really busy recruiter that doesn’t really help you prep.
The second realization: There are tons of qualified people in these companies who genuinely want to help people succeed in the job interview and grow their careers.
These people are leaders, mentors, coaches, recruiters, etc. who happily spend their time helping out friends or teammates in their job search. They had the real-world, lived experience of being in these roles (for example, product management) and understanding the internal hiring process. They also had the right motivation, and the time. This is in stark contrast to an internal recruiter who needs to “fill a role” and who is often simply crunched for time.
I had identified the problem, and the idea for Carrus was born: an online platform where you could find vetted and qualified career coaches to help you with your job search.
So, we built a marketplace, recruited over 130+ expert coaches, and in the last 24 months hosted thousands of coaching sessions delivered through the platform. We’ve helped hundreds of people find jobs!
That’s the short story, of course.
The longer version is a lot messier. Being a recruiter myself, I had zero tech experience and had no idea what I was doing. I basically pieced it together with some freelancers on Upwork. This didn’t go very well, and I spent a lot of time, money and emotional energy building a product that didn’t work.
Eventually, I found a technical advisor who ended up being my cofounder, Ugo, and a full time developer, Hamish, who also ended up being my cofounder. I finally had some semblance of a good team.
We went through several iterations and business models: from subscription based, from B2B to B2C, from set pricing to custom pricing, to focusing on all coaching to just a couple categories, and much more.
Today our main focus is offering career and mock interview coaching, mainly for tech companies like Amazon, Facebook and Google, and we’re expanding to other companies too. Our coaches are the top 1% of hiring managers and former recruiters at tech companies, and everyone maintains a 4.8 star rating or above. You can search for coaches based on company, role, price, availability, etc. A lot of people like to get a Package, where you get a bundle of sessions at a discounted price.
My mission is to make coaching more accessible to everyone, not just those with a good network or that are geographically advantaged (but they can get coaching, too:)!

Love the mission and the product. Democratizing access for interview prep is much needed. It would be nice to be able to see the coach's background in the list view such as are they say from a product or tech background
