Capacities is one of those gems. A once-in-a-decade app to keep in the deep layers of one's personal system.
It's magic is just the right combination of state-of-the-art UI/UX, combining the best of all those 'talked about apps', plus a very elemental pivot: approaching knowledge around knowledge objects and types. And this changes everything – because it blends a highly versatile PKM system with all the bells and whistles (contextual metadata, knowledge graphs, magic dynamic views of data, one of the cleanest visual experiences I know, deep media integration, 'hyperdocument'-feel etc.) with ... intuition. Meaning: usability. Which is 'magic', thinking of the fact that below the surface it is a hyper versatile multi-database solution, with a high-level inclusion of metadata use, internal self referencing (think block references and all such!). And with all this, it allows for a customization that is as flexible as it feels like a glove around the hands of any type of 'knowledge worker'. Wow.
— So it is like the best of Notion, Craft, Obsidian, Bear, DevonThink, … and some others combined, organically.
Add to this an impeccable dev team (of two!) that a) has a vision b) puts *real* focus on the user base c) listens and engages in a very responsive, transparent, and straightforward way – while also debating conceptuals with their base. Where else do you find that?
… plus, I think their focus on *personal use*, not eying any 'pivoting' to the 'business solutions' market, is really a strong point here ('USP'!), as this is very much about PKM, with a 'P' in it.
There is more to say, as the development trajectory is one of the most dynamic I have come across (only matched by one, maybe two others in the field). But the best is getting ones hand into it, and molding the 'studio' (because that is what it really is!) to ones own needs. Capacities, in short, I feel, can be any studio to anyone.
On things, it still needs, maybe, standing out is some more offline capabilities and some encryption element, and some more permeability between its individual (sub-)spaces (think: notebooks). But I am sure things will be improving here, as they do continually all across the board…!!
