I came across this watch on Kickstarter and I have to say that the salmon leather really appealed to me. Also, it is inspired by Bergen, Norway - my hometown <3
I met Paal, the maker, a few days ago and got to try the watches. They look great and I love the contrast of the simple and elegant look of the watch compared to the rough material of the strap. This is a product and a team I believe in, so that is why backed this project on Kickstarter yesterday.

I created BERG out of the frustration that me and my friends had out of the fashion watches on the market. I experienced broken glass, low battery life, low quality straps, water damage and low production quality.
And as many of you know, it is when you experience a problem that you come up with an idea to solve that problem.
I wanted to create the ultimate minimalist fashion watch under $500. I've gotten my inspiration from my hometown of Bergen and the nature surrounding it. The simple and elegant design of the watch reflects on the beauty of the fjords and the rough look of the strap is like the wild nature and mountains surrounding it.
For the straps I've used salmon leather that is a bio-waste product from the Faroe Islands, it is shipped to Iceland where it gets tanned at Europe's #1 tannery in 2016. The salmon leather can be treated in over 50 ways, which I think is amazing and a resource that can be important in the future of fashion.
For the movement I've chosen a Swiss made 704 Ronda. As it comes with five jewels instead of one, that many other brands use, it creates less friction and damage to the parts, which gives it a longer life expectancy.
Some other specs: Sapphire crystal glass, 5 ATM, interchangeable straps and 8mm thick (thin).
The case come in silver, rose gold and gold. Sizes are 36 mm, 38 mm and 40 mm. Strap sizes are 16 mm, 18 mm and 20 mm. The straps will be available in black, navy, dark green, oxblood, grey and brown.
At the moment the campaign has reach right above $62 000 which has just exceeded all my expectations. It got funded in just 38 minutes, and I had stream it live through Facebook to document that amazing moment.
