A few years ago, I was travelling around Morocco when my sister, Nicole, came out to soak up some sunshine. Just like at home, it wasn’t long before we emptied out our wardrobes and were busy swapping clothing and trying on new things. I said to my sister, “Wouldn’t it be cool if everyone had a sister or a friend to swap with?”. The pandemic hit, and I found myself out of work, homeless and stuck in Morocco. My sister and I dedicated all our time to creating Bandi. We mapped out the entire user experience of the app, created our business plan, started a facebook group to prove the concept and before long we had almost 2k people swapping on our group within 6 months. I have a maths degree and a methodical mind, luckily my sister is creative, and the two of us combined made the perfect team to create Bandi and everything we envisioned. 🚀 How it’s going... As with any tech product launch, we faced struggles. From finding investment to opening a bank account during the pandemic. It has taken us 12 months but we finally overcame all of this, and in the meantime were able to be picky about the team we were to surround ourselves with. Once we partnered with our design and development team, we were able to bring Bandi to life. It was more than we could have ever imagined. To take our drawings, notes and rough sketches to what it is today, it has been an incredible journey to witness. Bandi exists to fight back against fast fashion. The fashion industry is the 3rd largest polluter in the world, the amount of clothes dumped in landfills combined with the emissions from postage, make up to 10% of the world's carbon emissions. And the truth is, we have more than enough clothes to go around. We’re creating a community that matches people who are a similar size and shape, so they can swap the clothes they no longer wear and build a better wardrobe.
