Hi Hunters! This is Lea, co-founder at Ava. Today we are introducing Ava, a fertility tracker for women. Ava tracks nine physiological parameters in order to accurately detect your fertile window for your current cycle in real-time. Ava makes the journey to a baby better, more convenient, and more magical for couples everywhere. Exciting news: Ava just completed our first clinical trial at the University Hospital of Zurich under the lead of Prof. Dr. Brigitte Leeners, a leading expert on the mathematical modeling of menstrual cycles. Ava was shown to accurately predict an average of 5.3 fertile days per cycle in real time—more than any other method of fertility tracking, including the temperature method and LH urine tests. Ava measures pulse rate, breathing rate, HRV, sleep duration and sleep phases, movement, skin temperature, heat loss, perfusion, and bioimpedance to provide insight about ovulation, cycle length, fertile and non-fertile days, resting pulse rate, physiological stress, and sleep quantity and quality. We’re here to answer questions and would love to hear your feedback! We’re offering a special promo code for you: use “producthunt” for $20 off your Ava order.

Can you talk about what lead to the design of the wearable? Seems like it's on the large side and I'm not really clear on why that shape. Also why do you only wear it at night?

@esleysvanas The shape of the device looks like their logo, and the logo looks like the first division of a fertilized egg. That's my best guess.

@esleysvanas Thanks for your question! In terms of the shape, the design was meant to evoke mitosis, the process of a single cell dividing into two cells during conception. The sensor pod is larger than other wearables like Fitbit because it has more sensors. Unlike fitness wearables, Ava is a medical device. This is also the reason why it is worn only at night—the physiological parameters become more stable at rest, making it easier to perceive the changes that are driven by changing levels of hormones throughout the menstrual cycle rather than changing levels of activity throughout the day. An added benefit of wearing it only at night is that it enables women to keep the fact that they’re trying to conceive private. We didn’t think that was something our user base would want to advertise on their wrists all day long.
