Incredible experience with a flexible open-source BaaS. Especially when it comes to identity and access management - historically a headache with AWS, etc. - Appwrite makes it easy! Their rate of growth is also tremendous - powered by a passionate community and an excellent leadership team, they've already overtaken competitors with years' development ahead of them, all before the first funding round! The managed service rounds things out - next steps could be introduction of Bun for JS (already seen leadership exploring this idea in the Discord) and more granular control over storage, but it's still extremely early days. Cannot wait for the cloud service - already primed as a customer!
Excellent tool for developing the back-end of a Flutter app. Appwrite was also easier to deploy on my own VPS than other tools like it.
Appwrite got my attention since the #30DaysofAppwrite campaign was started. What a solid tool for Backend, web, and mobile so far!
Appwrite
Appwrite was born out of a deep frustration with the complexity of app development. From the beginning, our mission has been to simplify the developer experience and make it easier to build secure, scalable, and modern applications, without the headaches.
For years, Appwrite has offered everything you need to power your backend, from databases and authentication to storage and serverless functions. But one major piece was always missing: hosting your frontend.
Until now.
Today, we're excited to introduce Appwrite Sites, the easiest way to deploy and host your websites and web apps directly inside Appwrite. No more context-switching between services, wrangling with third-party integrations, managing extra accounts, and paying for more subscriptions. Build, deploy, and go live, all from one unified platform.
With Sites, Appwrite becomes the first fully open-source development platform to offer an end-to-end experience, all under one roof. Whether shipping static websites, server-rendered apps, or complex full-stack products, you now have one place to do it all. Seamlessly. Securely. Effortlessly.
This launch is about more than convenience. It’s about continuing our commitment to give developers the tools they need to move fast and stay focused on what matters most, creating amazing experiences.
We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and even more excited about what’s ahead. As always, your feedback has been instrumental in shaping Appwrite’s platform, and we can’t wait to hear what you think.
Try out Appwrite Sites at cloud.appwrite.io or self-host it on our open source repository: https://github.com/appwrite/appwrite

Congratz for the launch.
Interesting, curious to see how this new offer performs for both its cloud and self-hosted offering.
Also curious, why are you positioning yourself as a direct Vercel competitor (and not Netlify, Firebase, Coolify, Supabase and others?).
It looks to me you have a quite different model (OSS offering, serverless vs container-based, providing more first-party services...)
Appwrite
@sebastienlorber Hey Sebastian, thank you for the kind words!
Self-hosting vs. Cloud: In terms of features, cloud and self-hosted are nearly on par - no weird limitations or complex setup. With a single Compose file or a one-liner installation, you’re good to go. Only scale-related capabilities - like backups-as-a-service, Kubernetes, multi-region deployments, and edge support, telemetry and more remain cloud or enterprise only.
Positioning: You’re correct: while Appwrite Sites directly competes with Vercel, the Appwrite platform is much more than a Vercel alternative. We used to go by the Firebase alternative, but we like to view ourselves as a full end-to-end cloud platform, with the right abstractions to let developers focus on building - completely serverless and free from infrastructure headaches.
Appwrite
@sebastienlorber Thank you for your interest! ❤️ We see many developers praise Vercel for it's developer experience, simplicity, ease of use, and more.. Those are the exact same the details we care about. While Sites is a competitor of many platforms, and joined with Appwrite's backend services even more, we positioned ourselves as a Vercel alternative to make it clear we are here to stay, evolve, and compete when it comes to deploying your web apps.
Appwrite
@sebastienlorber Thank you Sebastian!
We're excited to have Docusaurus template on Appwrite Sites!

@laura_du_ry1 np, another interesting option to host Docusaurus sites, curious to see it in action!

this is a huge win for the dev community! An open-source alternative to Vercel that offers the flexibility to host static and server-rendered apps with full control — that’s powerful. Kudos to the Appwrite team for building such a developer-first experience!
