If you're an Apple Music user like me, you felt left out during Spotify Wrapped season🥲. Yes we had Replay but I think we all wanted a bit more. So in 8 days I built something much more fun and in depth😁Hope you enjoy!
Hey Makers :) I've pretty much been an everyday user of product hunt for years, so I'm excited to share my second addition in 6 months🥳
Before I begin I'll link our discord for anyone looking to provide thoughts or feedback :) https://discord.gg/BtEHdqDFgZ
I always planned on building a wrapped but didn't realize the overwhelming need until I was scrolling my twitter timeline. I noticed thousands of apple music users that were distraught and being made fun of. More than that they were disappointed in Apple for year after year providing the same unchanged dull overview of their eventful year of tunes. After being fed up I tweeted on Dec 2nd that we're gonna build a better wrapped.
The current app I've been working on, TuneStalgia, is a music nostalgia app. It imports your Apple Music data and tells you daily the songs you forgot you loved, from your past. So I already had a sufficient amount of code to work with to build something quickly. Following that I did a simple venn diagram, incorporating what Apple's Replay and Spotify's Wrapped did and did not. Focusing on the untapped area we were able to find certain spots for unique content. For example Spotify & Apple both list your Top Genres, but not the top songs of those Genres. We were able to bring that to life. In addition were able to focus on time periods that were sentimental to users such as the songs you listened to in the first month of Covid.
It was a wild 8 days but somehow we were able to make it happen. After posting on Twitter and r/AppleMusic we had 700+ Sign Ups and 35k+ Songs Played on the app! The problem I identify with so dearly is the ache and pain of opening your music app and not being able to hear something you love. When people go to listen to music they’re looking for a change in their day, mindset, ability, perspective, heart. They want to hear music that makes them feel something, or maybe- a feeling they’ve once felt before. This was just another chance to do that and I hope that this works as a solution for any of my fellow Apple Music users :)
Love!
