AdGuard is less resource intensive than any browser extension, and applies the same rules consistently across the OS (be it MacOS or Windows) in multiple browsers and other applications, if desired. I also love the fact it supports userscripts without the need for any browser extensions.
I think I bought this on sale a few years ago and have used it since. I have always been happy with it; it just works. You have lots of options to customise it to your needs, including subscribing to various block lists to improve ad blocking. I have even started using the AdGuard DNS servers recently.
Seems to be working really well. I've been using uBlock but had some issues with YouTube. I currently don't have the same issues with AdGuard so I'm satisfied.
