Hey! Thanks @jamesdaly90 for hunting Zones. I'm Tom, the developer (and attempted designer).
I made Zones to fill my own desire for an easy way to view and convert times in different cities around the world on my phone. Recently I set about creating Zones 2.0 from scratch, entirely rewriting the code I wrote a few years ago and completely rethinking the interface and how users interacted with the app.
The main focus of the app is clearly displaying times in all the users chosen cities, and allowing incredibly easy conversion simply by tapping on a city in your list and selecting a time in the future to convert from. That time is then converted and reflected in all the other cities in the list.
The other stuff I've focussed on are:
- A large database of cities represented from across the world (the database even contains a list of alternate names so users can search with different spellings, in different languages, and various common names for cities)
- A Today Widget, for quickly glancing at current times around the world
- Sharing the selected times in your cities in plain text format to email, message, etc. to allow quick communication of times around the world for meetings
- Themes, giving users the ability to customise how the app looks for their preferences
- And heaps of customisation - users can choose from a compact mode, change font options (the app also respects the user's system font size), show and hide data, etc.
I'm going to be adding more to Zones over time, with iPad support and adding time zone names (think PST/PDT, AEST, UTC, etc.) as options and alternatives to just cities.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has feedback or suggestions for the app!
