Introducing YOSO app: 'You Only See Once' for self-destructing photo links. Simply upload, get a unique link, share on favorite apps - photos last up to 15 seconds, then disappear forever. Embrace fleeting moments now!
👀 Hey ProductHunt,
I'm Catrina and I'm heading up Marketing for YOSO App. We're thrilled to unveil the YOSO App today, which is designed to generate self-destructing, one-time-view photo links.
💡 The inspiration came from...
1. Chatting on Tinder with Matches, we realized how monotone the conversation felt with just text. What if we could enrich the chat by adding photos? It would surely spark more lively discussions!
2. The ephemeral features on Instagram disappearing photo and Snapchat are super handy. Once viewed, the photos auto-delete, allowing stress-free sharing with friends.
What if this feature was available on other social media platforms? Imagine if everyday messaging apps like iMessage had a self-destructing photo feature, or even dating apps like Tinder, Bumble, and okCupid supported this?
Combining 1️⃣+2️⃣ inspirations, YOSO was born. Now, you can replicate the Instagram disappearing photo and Snapchat's self-destructing magic across any social app!
🐱 How does it work?
1. Set the display duration (1, 5, or 15 secs) for your photo. After this, once your recipient opens the link, the photo will auto-delete after the specified time.
2. Choose a photo from your gallery or snap one using your camera.
3. Generate the link! Use our preview option to get a sneak peek of how your recipient will see it.
4. Copy the link and share it across any of your favorite apps.
5. Your recipient doesn't need to download YOSO app; a simple click on the link is all it takes to view.
6. Once the photo is viewed, it's automatically deleted, and the link vanishes forever!
🔒 Safety first:
1. Unique anti-screenshot feature: The recipient needs to use a finger to view the photo.
2. Sensitive content detection: Considering feedback from dating app users who fear receiving explicit photos, we've integrated a detection mechanism. If a photo is detected as explicit, we'll shield the image, giving the user the choice to view or not.
🤓 What's Next?
Early user feedback suggests that aside from photos, a text feature would be welcome. Hence, YOSO 2.0 will soon introduce a text feature.
Stay tuned!
The concept of self-destructing photos has its appeal. Could you share more about the inspiration behind creating an app like YOSO and how you see it fitting into people's daily lives?
@ricardo_luz Thanks for the question.
In our personal experience, we identified a challenge when trying to send photo messages to Tinder matches. While researching solutions, we stumbled upon a few workarounds: temporarily changing profile photos for the match to view, exchanging social contacts or phone numbers (which can be uncomfortable if you’ve just met someone), or using online services to upload photos and share the link.
However, we realized that the self-destructing photo feature, popularized by platforms like Instagram and Snapchat, resonated more with our daily communication habits. We often prefer sending ephemeral photos over permanent ones.
Recognizing this gap, we were inspired to create an app that caters to this specific need. Moreover, we observed that many widely-used messaging apps, such as Line, WeChat, and KakaoTalk, lack this feature.
Our goal with YOSO is to empower users across all messaging platforms to share photos confidently, ensuring they can comfortably capture and share every moment without permanence.
Amazing app! I have often seen the integration of ideas with disappearing photos into other applications, but I see it separately for the first time - it's cool! It can be used with applications like WhatsApp, sending links to disappearing photos, and with mailers like gmail - convenient. Kudos for the launch
