Back in my day, you had to leave your chat window, go to a search engine site, futz around with messy links and then *hope* your audience would actually click on a youtube link with no preview.
You kids have it so easy, with your `/yarn use the force` and your `/yarn only a flesh wound` and your `/yarn milk was a bad choice`.
</old man rant>
Comedic reference calls for timely delivery, and Yarn for Slack delivers on this front. Fun stuff!
@bargar Nice picks for Slack searches, btw! Here's the links I got back to them when I tried them in Slack:
"Use The Force, Luke" - Star Wars Episode IV https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/794...
"It's just a flesh wound" - Monty Python https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/123...
"Milk was a bad choice!" - Anchorman https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/20d...
We are hoping that Slack whitelists us at some point and lets us play them inline. We are considering doing animated gifs instead of the static versions in the meantime.
@kanetmike Thanks for the kind words, Mike. Glad you like it! We're working on adding new features and hopefully Slack will let us play the videos inline at some point.
@treejanitor if the addition provides value to some of its users which I figure it absolutely does, Slack will most definitely have no chance at saying NO.
@kanetmike That's what we hope. Plus we'll continue to roll out other interesting integrations... _hint_ email similar to slack _/hint_ most likely this week.
@dragilev We've seen a lot of interesting quote usage... Two big categories: funny/witty/snarky replies, or people posting quotes from trending topics on people like David Bowie, Abe Vigoda, Kanye West, Jonas Storm/Frozen
Here's a few sample funny ones:
- "Are You Not Aware That I Get Farty And Bloated With A Foamy Latte?" - Zoolander - https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/8b8...
- Debbie Downer/SNL - a descending trombone sound (wa-wah) with her classic face http://www.getyarn.io/yarn-clip/...
- "The sea was angry that day, my friends" - George from Seinfeld http://www.getyarn.io/yarn-clip/...
- "What are you going to do, bleed on me" - Monty Python http://www.getyarn.io/yarn-clip/...
- "You're the dirty boo" - Master Of None https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/576...
- "Sounds like somebody's got a case of the Mondays" - Office Space https://www.getyarn.io/yarn-clip...
- "Theses pipes... are clean!" - Cabin Boy https://www.getyarn.io/yarn-clip...
Honestly, it's hard to come up with a list that sums up how funny they can be, because a lot of really funny things we've seen are way better in context. The witty reply loses some of the humor without knowing what someone said before it. The perfect reply can be _hilarious_. We've seen great stuff coming from slack, whatsapp, reddit, twitter, facebook, fb messenger, kik, voat, pinterest, blogs, forums... pretty much anywhere you can chat or interact socially.
@dragilev We have a pretty wide variety of content that our spiders seem to find. I honestly don't even know probably one tenth of what's in there. It's a bit of a cool experience to use your own tool and discover content that you didn't know existed or you hadn't seen for years.
Here's an odd experience that's happened for me...
1. I saw a funny Aziz Ansari clip for Master of None... it got me to look for others... Next thing I know I've binged watch the whole season on Netflix.
2. Same thing happened with Veep. Never had seen the show, but had heard of it. The language in the clip - pretty fierce, got me interested enough to look for a few other clips then to buy the show. I don't have HBO even.
Now - I'm starting to keep tabs on movies where I've heard the name and they show up in Yarn with interesting dialog... or someone sends me a funny Yarn and I think... "Hmm, maybe I should watch that one it's a classic", or "I had no idea that Gravity Falls was a funny kids' show", etc.
Anyway, it's cool to work on a product that actually impacts your own content-discovery experience pretty significantly.
