@leonard_witteler1 Best Wishes !!!
HAve been using Wonder for the last few months and I would say it is refreshingly new way of conducting and attending virtual meetings. Infact my team feels that it very closes mimics how we behave in physical meetings and conferences.
@leonard_witteler1 Thank you. You and your team deserve this and more. I still remember each and every minute of the passionate demo your team gave me during my onboarding.
@leonard_witteler1@venkyb I heard the person giving the demos is a very charming individual, indeed (if it was me 😄). @michael_loves_wonder is also pretty charming, in fact. 😃
@venkyb I couldn't resist the little jokes here 🙈
Thanks to @chrismessina for the hunt!
Hi everyone!
This is Stephane, Leo and Pascal from Wonder! We're very excited 🤩 and a little nervous 😱 to be back - we hope you find this interesting and are looking forward to hearing your thoughts 🙏
In April 2020 our previous startup got crushed by the first lockdown 🥲 We thought about what the world needs and were super intrigued by the fact that you can't meet in groups online 🤔. Something that makes getting together in groups special just doesn't work virtually 😒 It's one of the biggest problems of the digital age and solving it would add a big puzzle piece to creating real connections between humans through the internet 🚀 ❤️
So we hacked together a prototype for a browser-based spatial chat app 🤓 🛠️ and started to phone event planners, asking them if they wanted to use it. In under a year, we grew to 750k MAU, purely by word of mouth, raised funding and grew into a little company 🤯 🤪
We're super proud to launch our second iteration of the product. We completely reworked the core experience - it's faster ⚡smoother 😎 crisper 🍎 supports up to 500 participants 🌍 has a re-worked UX 🛼 and went through a rebrand 💫.
We're very excited about what comes next, but before that, here's a bit of context:
**What is Wonder**
Wonder is a virtual space for groups to get together in a way that feels natural and energising 🤗🥳. In essence, we care about creating moments of connection, when you experience something together and meet new people ❤️🔥 So Wonder isn't meant as a virtual space that people spend all day in (e.g. an office) 👔. It's designed for gatherings with a fixed start and end date, and a purpose 🎇. We think that's what the world needs right now - a space to build and maintain real human connections 🧑🤝🧑. Some features that describe the product:
- Browser-based spatial chat
- Up to 500 people in each space (room expands automatically)
- Customise background
- Broadcast to speak to everyone at the same time
- Areas to add structure to your event
- Free and no signup
**Who uses Wonder**
Many of our early adopters are event professionals (who sit in different types of orgs) 🕴️🕴️ but part of the vision is that it's so easy to set up the venue that anyone can be a host 👶 We want to empower as many people as possible to get people together and watch the magic happen 💪!
**How we think about the future**
Spatial chat apps have received a lot of attention, so for those of you who are interested, here is how we think about it:
**It's not about the 2D space** - the power of spatial chat apps lies in the social dynamics that the interaction principle unlocks. So our focus is not on making the spaces more immersive or complex, but *facilitating interaction between participants* 💁♀️ 💫 🙋. Right now, connecting online feels awkward - it should be a breeze!
**Connections are made 'in-between'** - we're *creating opportunities for serendipity* 😝🍀🤯. Wonder spaces support 500 participants and we're building space areas where you can host different sub-events simultaneously. People experience what's going on elsewhere and spontaneously move around if something looks exciting
**Power to the people** - great events are made by the guests. Imagine Woodstock without the audience. That's impossible if you're muted, in a grid. We *help guest shape gatherings* 😄🗯️ 🎤 😄and let them feel each other's presence in the space.
**Don't talk about the weather** - People find it incredibly difficult to start meaningful conversations online. Like a good host who introduces guests to each other, Wonder *helps surfacing commonalities between users* 🧑🚀 ⁉️🧑🚀. We use icebreaker questions that hosts can set for guests, so they have something to talk about. We're also working on statuses that are searchable in the participant list, so that guests can find people interested in similar things and have meaningful conversations with them.
We'd love to hear from you (1) what activities/features/ideas/products you've seen that made virtual meetings connecting/energising/exciting (2) what tires you most about meeting virtually (3) general feedback on the product, of course! 🙂
@chrismessina@_1_ras Brevity was never my strongest suit :D
As we were catapulted into the new way of online living over the last few years we here at Wonder were constantly evaluating the role of meeting in large groups and the impact is has on our life. This is where we build connections and community. Meeting in large groups, a staple of our lives, went missing and we wanted to solve it. We built a platform that empowers people with the space and tools to make gatherings in a meaningful way.
So when people ask "what can Wonder do?" my answer is usually "yes!". If your goal is connect to someone in the context of work or play, we can help!
For example, we use our Wonder Space for all daily operations for the team. Our digital office has space for meetings, interview candidates, focus work, and is open 24/7 so people can come and go as they please. We've hosted no shortage of speed dating, conferences, job fairs, pub quiz, birthday parties, cooking classes, and sports classes but the real magic of the Space comes from our ability to make communication feel natural. We make room for serendipity. You can shape the event however you like. You can create spaces that have encourage commonalities among the participants so you can chat easily.
@_1_ras in summary: I think it's useful anywhere you want communication to happen :D
what do you think?
It is a fun experience and immediately intuitive how it works. I stumbled into it when it was still Yotribe. One of our students did an internship in the Berlin startup and really was on fire with enthusiams from working there. Strong alternative for webmeetings that should be extraordinary.
