As a developer, I use my command line a lot so why not integrate chat directly into it?
For this reason, I wrote whir, which aims to close this gap by providing a simple, flexible, extendable and blazing fast chat environment, without having to install additional applications.

@jrschumacher From a UX point of view, there is not much difference. I am not a big IRC fan; it's old, it's slow and it takes a toll on the clients running it. I decided to build something that was more future-compatible, so I went for websockets. And since IRC is not really compatible with websockets, I was not really going to invest my time into bridging a gap for a technology that I believe is not going anywhere.
