?makers thanks for sharing this wonderful initiative. I'm so glad that the crypto space is constantly expanding its boundaries and now using the resources for something everyone desires, to live longer! If this materializes, it would be one of the biggest break-through in entire human history! I've been keeping up with what @balajis has been sharing on Twitter and am very excited about the project. The DAO revolution has just begun. More power to you all :) Curious to know about the timelines involved for each project... ?? I see that the Molecule trials can take about 24 months.
Laurence Ion
@balajis @adityavsc yeah the timelines can vary widely! The community will vote which projects to invest in. Could be some early stage that can take a decade or more, could be royalty agreements for something that can be available to consumers now or soon, like a diagnostics, biological clock service.. Sky's the limit :)

@laur_ion that's great! So excited for the launch :)

But the question still remains -- Why prolong life?
Vincent Weisser
@swastikagurung1 First goal is to improve health span, which means healthy into old age and life span is living longer.
Ilija Rolović
@swastikagurung1 the answer to your question has been written over and over, ever since the Epic of Gilgamesh. There's a decent amount of buildings across the world, most famous ones in Egypt, that also answer your question. Humanity has been on the quest for immortality since the dawn of our species. That said, I believe that the idea of this DAO is to democratize access to longevity technologies, as the world where only the hyper-wealthy get to be immortal looks extremely dystopian. A world where we can all be biologically immortal might also be a dystopia - overpopulation, wealth accumulation by old people being a problem, but... In a post-human (e.g. both biohacks and implants like neural laces) world where we're either a part of a collective consciousness, or we are all intelligent enough to recognize that collaboration is the key to long-term success of our species, I don't think it'd be that much of an issue to deal with, either with regulating population growth, having polygenetic kids (e.g. 5 moms, 3 dads), expanding into the rest of the Solar System (and ultimately towards the stars), or a combination of those, plus potentially more. That is assuming we remain biological (at least to a large degree) in the future, which I kinda hope will be the case.
Elad Verbin
@swastikagurung1 we prolong life because the most powerful force for good is a human who has centuries of experience, and who knows they will continue to live for centuries longer, in good health. A world where life is long and high-quality is a world of smart long-term-optimizing people: the best possible world. And here is CGPGrey's take on the same question:
Swastika Gurung
@ilijarolovic That is a profound way of looking at it. But I am concerned about the ethics of prolonging life, just like the ethics of cutting it short. AI, robotics, genetics and then an out of control virus from a research facility! What will we finally be able to control? What implications will a prolonged life have after we do it? Begs an answer that I do not find easy.
Laurence Ion
@ilijarolovic @swastikagurung1 https://lifespan.io/concerns might give you some food for thought counterarguments to such concerns as overpopulation, inequality etc ;)

I'm an academic researcher and can speak to challenges our community faces in funding biomedical research in general. I lead the longevity working group at VitaDAO and our goal is to fund overlooked areas of longevity research as well as and underepresented scientists. Please connect with me if you're interested in learning more about VitaDAO.
