Verifact is an open protocol for verifying facts. It's designed to get authentic fact-checks on the news without bias. - Submit links or tweets to get them fact-checked! - Gain points by helping others find out what's true
@aantthony I might not be understanding this correctly but, people decide if the news is fake or not right? What if the public is misinformed, then the only valid source would be the person that is involved in the news or a governing body. My point being - are the people voting for the news a credible source for fact checking?
@aantthony@ananay_batra Exactly. I have the same doubt. And if what you said is true then the news is not going to be factual. I thought the product will help verify by locating the source or origin of the news, if it exists. But if people are voting for the "right" side, then its wrong! That can lead to spread wrong information as well.
@ananay_batra Hey, thanks for your comment! Yes, the people decide. The credibility of Verifact depends on its users, and the points are designed to make that a fair meritocracy. So while the platform is open for anyone to vote, if you were to vote nonsense, you’d quickly lose the points. And so over time, those who are more rational and able to justify their argument well will gain points, while those less credible will lose points. So overall it would trend towards becoming more reliable over time. The comments section would contain information so people can ultimately decide for themselves as well
@realdesigntack Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Really appreciate the feedback. My goal is to get rationally minded people on the platform, to help steward the network towards voting based on the facts, rather than just voting for their political side. If the rational people can outweigh the irrational people, then Verifact can be a place for a reasoned discussion on important events (from both political sides), which is something I think the world needs. Thanks :)
@aantthony I get your point, but most Fake news goes "Viral" for the sole reason that *most* people think that it's true and start spreading it. If those people use the platform then it would aggregate the virality rather than dissolving it. All this happens in a matter for hours, so usually the best way to fact check is from the source itself.
