I am a bit confused, why would I pay for data that it's free? What do you add on top of, say, the EU Open Data? All I see it's 3 zip files and I am not even sure what's in those
👋 Hello everyone,
🌟 On March 2019, Vacuum Data launched as membership subscription for open data. We extracted open data as-is directly from the source (hand-picked and curated list) and hosted it on our platform.
🌈 Fast forward to today, we have rebuilt and redesigned Vacuum Data from scratch. Vacuum Data is a one-page destination with a base of curated lists of open data sources that you can download as a CSV, filter, sort and share. Our growing categories include Geospatial, People and Places, Weather and Water, Plants and Animals, Ships and Aircraft, Aid and Charities, Mind and Body, Earth and Space.
🦄 We built Vacuum Data because we wanted to see open data that are less fragmented and more accessible. It can take months and years to extract a single unit of open data with and without automation. And then to clean, and make open data work with the rest of your data takes hundreds of hours of work and hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. There is a lack of a standard across boundaries and every level of government and within institutions and companies.
🚰 Most open data that are free are not truly free as there are multiple barriers to how you can access and what you can do with the data. Quality, for example, can range from a few sentences published as a pdf and not maintained to spreadsheets with proper formatting updated daily and accessible through APIs.
👩🏽🌾 We will continue to extract entire open data sources and make them available to download. If you require on-demand data management and data extraction services, plans start at $599 daily.
🧠 We welcome all feedback!
