Adblock for distracting crap like feeds and related content

Unweb is adblock for distractions. Hide never-ending feeds, related articles, and suggested videos on sites like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. Opt back into distractions using the 'Show' button. Lose the temptation, not the functionality.

this is wonderful. thanks & congrats. would love a version for safari.

fwiw i have been doing this manually with custom adblock filters for a while. anything that reduces engagement tactics on websites is welcome my life :-)

@michell_zappa That is an extremely cool way to go about it, I've heard of a couple of people doing that. I'm hoping that by packaging essentially the same thing in a slightly better UX, it might appeal more and reach a wider audience.
Louis Barclay
@michell_zappa Also a big part of it is doing the editorial work so other people don't have to: trawling these sites to figure out which parts could/should be hidden.

@louis_barclay and keeping it updated. i remember linkedin being particularly difficult with randomized div IDs etc. is there anything you need help with?
Louis Barclay
@michell_zappa Ah, yes, you hit the nail on the head. Keeping it updated is going to be a big challenge, or even figuring out smart ways for it to not need being updated. And re: your offer to help - definitely, would love to discuss. Perhaps over a call? You could choose a good time for you in the Calendly link in my opening comment. (Which PH won't let me put here for some reason.)

Hi PH! I'm the maker of Unweb, adblock for distractions. If you get sucked in easily by things like feeds, suggested articles, and related videos when you visit a site like Facebook, YouTube, Reddit or Twitter, Unweb's for you. Unweb hides those distractions behind a white box by default. There's a button so you can opt into a distraction when you need it — so you don't lose any functionality of the site at all. But this way, the distraction isn't there to lure you in from the start. I'm building Unweb because I want you - not the designers of distractions - to decide how you interact with the most popular sites on the internet. Previously I built Nudge, a 5-star Chrome extension with over 2,000 WAU that helps you use the internet less. I would love to hear your feedback on Unweb, so leave a comment below! Or, if you'd like to schedule a time to chat: https://calendly.com/louis-barclay Cheers, Louis

Aaah! I'm rooting for this! Great idea. I would add gradients somewhere in future!
Louis Barclay
@spacegangster Thank you so much! Interesting - would love to know what you mean by gradients?
Ivan Fedorov
@louis_barclay I mean background gradients. Maybe some predefined color schemes. E.g. https://webgradients.com/
Louis Barclay
@spacegangster Ahh gotcha. Do you mean for the white boxes that cover hidden sections? My one worry would be about making the hidden sections look more appealing.
