I saw an ad for Umi the other day down in the subway stop and was curious, so I looked it up. I was immediately drawn in because I never have time to cook, but everything on Seamless/Grubhub is either unhealthy or far too healthy (sorry salad). Umi is clever because they work with vetted home chefs that create beautiful, delicious, healthier (but hearty) meals. I think this is groundbreaking for the food industry and the shared economy. Bon Appétit!
@jabrueckner Thanks for the post and for the kind words! You totally nailed it. We built Umi because we were sick of eating the same things day in and day out and we missed the personal experience of eating home cooking made with love. "Umi" is the Arabic word for "my mother," and my mother was the inspiration for our business. In a city that's as populated, diverse, and frenetic as NYC, sometimes it's hard not to feel anonymous. With Umi, we hope that you'll be able to get a personal and emotional experience by savoring a home cooked dinner made specially for you. We're surrounded by incredible cooks! We just don't know about 'em yet. We hope you'll enjoy finally discovering them :)
P.S. Huge thanks @jabrueckner for hunting us!
