What do you think? …

When I lived in China (cc @ayrton @andrewett @mscccc ) I went to get my hair cut and they gave me a book of images to flick through and try to explain what I wanted I was 'advised' to go for the 'David Beckham' but the result wasnt quite what I'd seen in the book. Seems like an obvious use-case to make an app for this but not seen it done before! Nice

Thanks @bentossell, that's spot on. For many women, the search usually starts before we get to the salon. You can search Instagram/Pinterest for inspiration, then head to YouTube for a corresponding tutorial, then on to StyleSeat/Yelp to find a stylist who can do the style, then off to find a beauty supply that carries the products you need for and to maintain the new style. It is a long and tiring process. Our vision is to make Tress the go-to platform from the hairstyle inspiration phase up until she actually has her hair done.

@bentossell @ayrton @andrewett @mscccc You know, I had this exact thing happen to me in Thailand when I lived there. Just because I was from England and had a beard, I was automatically lumped in as David Beckham's twin. Got a bit annoying in the end.

Thanks for hunting us Kat! We are super excited to be launching on Product Hunt today. We are in the current (W2017) batch of Y Combinator. I'm the CEO & Co-founder of Tress. My co-founders and I are building a social community for black women to discover and share hairstyle inspiration. Women upload photos of beautiful hairstyles and discuss with the community how to replicate the look, which products were used and where to get similar hairstyles. Unlike other topics, it’s significantly more useful to talk to women that have your specific hair type and hair needs. The app also has a Q&A section where users ask for advice in a forum-style setting where other users and stylists offer advice and recommend their services. We additionally have a Tips section, where we link to influencer content that can help the community in their hair care needs. I’d be more than happy to answer any questions you might have about Tress. We would love to hear your feedback.
