@eriktorenberg Traaacks sort of feels like Wikipedia for artists, except updated to reflect the social Internet era (e.g. all of their Instagram/SoundCloud/Facebook accounts are linked).
Anyway, I just signed up via Facebook. The design and the speed of search is great. I love their "WELCOME TO THE FAMILY" headline after you create your account, the personality of the product is strong. For me personally, I was able to import data from the artist I manage (Kivvy), because I am an admin for his Facebook page. I like that. I am going to use this.
Back to the bigger picture though: I would love a "CrunchBase for the music industry". I think there needs to be a way to quickly check the detailed background of everyone in music, from artists to managers to tour managers to A&R, etc. (just like we 'mostly' can for tech with CrunchBase).
Having this for artists is a great start, though none of my searches worked (Fabolous, Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa). I finally saw Pharrell's page. Where do they aggregate the written bio content from?
@syswarren Yes, that too Julie. My conversation with @eriktorenberg stemmed from the stark differences I've seen from first interactions in tech (e.g. "Hi John I'm Julie, I do UI/UX for Kimd"), where I am able to pretty easily background check the validity of what someone claims using CrunchBase/etc. to see if they are who they say are.
First interactions in music, at least from my experiences, are much harder. Or at least, much different.
For example, someone will say something like, "Hi John, I produce for Wiz Khalifa and I'm the one who first discovered PartyNextDoor for Drake, nice to meet you!". And I search online and can't find their SoundCloud, their Twitter bio is some vague quote that doesn't shed light into their background, and there's literally no way for me to validate who this person is - I have to take them for their word. A "CrunchBase for artists" could be an awesome way to provide more clarity!
Does that make sense?
This is a beautifully designed tool for artist. I love the idea of having all the informations about one artist in one place! What do you think about tools that gather all the content at the same place?
