Hey Produduct Hunters! 👋 I'm Andreas, CEO and (co-)founder of TICE Software and today, we are excited to share news about our secure location sharing app TICE with you: TICE is now open source! 🎯 What is TICE? TICE is a secure location sharing app for meeting up and locating friends and family in real-time. TICE is used by friends, family members, colleagues and others who want to show their live location to someone else – to find each other, to notify someone about their arrival or just to feel safe and seen while commuting. All participants see themselves in real time on a map on their smartphone. Meetings become easy by setting a meeting point and using the integrated chat - without annoying questions like “Where exactly are you now? Are you there yet?” and „Give me a wink so I can see you”. All location data and messages are end-to-end encrypted and are therefore protected from third parties - including us, the company behind it. 🔓 Why Open Source? By open sourcing it, we follow our goal to have a secure, universal, transparent and free app, without any compromises. By open sourcing our apps for iOS, Android and Web, you can inspect our end-to-end encryption, suggest and implement new ideas and report and fix bugs. 📈🤩 Our Journey TICE was funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy and the European Social Fund in 2019 as part of the EXIST programme. We released the iOS client in early 2020 and followed up with the Android client in the fall of 2020. Now, almost one year and thousands of users later, we want to take the next huge step in our TICE journey: Go open source! 😜 Location Sharing… again? There are many location sharing apps out there – why another? While there are already popular apps like Find My or Glympse out there, TICE wants to be a secure alternative running on your iPhone, Android or on any other device with our web app. Open sourcing TICE is yet another important difference we want to make – not only postulating that we are free and secure but proving it, too. ⏭🔼 Next up: The TICE agenda The roadmap of TICE (https://ticeapp.com/en/#roadmap) lists various features that are already in development or are still pending. The vision for TICE is to go from a simple location sharing tool to an organizational helper for every appointment. With TICE, users should be able to share their route, see the arrival times of others, plan meetings for the future, and much more. The publication of the source code serves to complete missing features by contributors and thus to support more use cases cross-platform. 🤑💰 How is the project financed? The three founders run their own software agency TICE Software, from whose income they finance the TICE project. I don't have an android : ( but I like this idea of secure location sharing. Nice job!

@lianne_bergeron TICE runs natively on iPhone and Android! If someone wants to join who doesn’t have the app, they can simply use the web app 🙂 So TICE should work for everyone 🚀
