Hey Product Hunt, I wanted to share my new startup with you! About 2 years ago I started to design products that would solve my travel organization problems. As a former Canadian National team athlete (swimmer), I was always on the road competing. I wanted to have travel accessories that would really fit and adapt to the modern traveler. I decided I would give it a try and design a product. I was studying Mechanical engineering at the time and I implemented some of the design principles I learned in my studies. I designed 5 different types of products everything from backpacks to tote bags to cable organizers before I decided to pursue my wallet design. I made my first prototype out of jeans material then I taught myself how to make it out of leather, thankfully youtube had tutorials on how to work with leather :P. After I made my leather version, I enrolled to pitch my product to the incubator at my university, I got accepted into the program! I spent many months going through leather samples, coatings and tanning methods, colors and finishes to develop another 5 prototypes before I was happy with the quality and functionality of the product. I decided to launch my start up on kickstarter because I loved the community aspect of the platform. I wanted to ensure my customers would receive their products perfectly so I spent my savings and placed an order of a small production run. I tested to make sure everything from when the order was placed to my manufacture, to the wallet being shipped to a customer is as seamless as I can make it. After a few months of getting the process right, I launched my Kickstarter two days ago and we are now over 50% funded 😃 I wanted to share with you my entrepreneurial journey of starting a small accessories company and show you the final result.
