Hey! I'm the Founder/CEO of Streamplate and we're building a personalised food ordering app with health tracking which you can learn more about here - https://www.streampate.com. The goal of Streamplate is to serve choice, and so we've been working on a massive app that supports a range of features like pre-ordering, at-table ordering, nutrition filtering, curations, events and much more. But we realised that this is only one side of the story - the other half is supporting venues on the platform. Today, venues really only need one piece of hardware - a payment terminal. Other apps might offer 'in-depth data analytics' or 'discounts' that might incentivise a venue to join, but we don't believe these type of add-ons provide long-term value to venues. Instead, we think the best way to support venues is to ensure that they have the best payment terminal possible. Payment terminals aren't designed to be memorable, and it's often the last interaction a customer has with a venue. We've flipped this, and built The Orb which has a lasting impression on the customer. The idea is simple: as the customer approaches The Orb, it starts to float.

@bryan_jordan Is there a real world video of this experience? It's been so long since I've had an in-person payment experience because of the pandemic, but this would be memorable. BTW website seems to be down (confirmed with downfor.io)

Is this just an idea or does it exist. It seems fantastical; the sphere begins to float as the customer approaches - How?! Also possibly impractical; I’m assuming the levitation works by magnets - how often is it going to get knocked off balance when people tap it with their device and it goes rolling along the floor?

hey @mickc79, thanks for your question. It's going into production in a few weeks! We have IR sensors in the base plate which detect movement :) We're using directional magnets to keep the Orb in place - we've unassembled other products that use magnets for similar purposes so we know what works/doesn't.

Looks great and futuristic! I have some questions though: What prevents people from taking the ball? If the ball falls and causes a chain reaction (an elderly person slips backward and falls), who is at fault?

hey @jessehojjensen, thanks for your question. Like any other product in a store it could be taken - but the Orb will be locked to the device that it's activated on it so it'll be useless unless the owner unlinks it from their device. As for the liability side, as the venue would be the owner, they'd be responsible for its usage.
