Join collective challenges, set your own targets and track progress. A monthly challenge can jumpstart a new long-term habit or simply be a passing goal. Streaks are great, but all effort is celebrated.
This is the workout tracker I’ve been waiting for. I’ve always defaulted to a simple spreadsheet to track my (admittedly intermittent) workouts, since most apps out there are so incredibly complicated and hard to use. Not to mention, that complexity tends to obscure the critical information I do want to see. This app tracks and highlights the most important thing: consistent daily results. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
@evylyons of course! So I’d like to track:
- Progress reading books
- Daily writing on my blog
- Dollars spent on impulse items (this sounds like a negative but it’s easier to not buy stuff if I’ve already reached my “quota” for the day)
- Contracts I’ve submitted proposals for
- Professional contacts made
That’s just of the top of my head — I’ll let you know if I have more ideas!
@evylyons More ideas:
- Water drank per day
- Meals cooked, as opposed to ordering out
- Some sort of macronutrient threshold tracking, like “days I get under 25% of my calories from fat”
- Dollars I’ve put into savings
- Code written every day (maybe just measured as a binary “yes/no” on whether I wrote code that day?)
- Screen time per day (this is like the macro measurement or the impulse dollars spent, I’d want to stay under some threshold or quota)
- Active users on my blog (this one’s iffy, since it’s mostly out of my hands)
- Tweets I’ve engaged with per day
- Distance walked per day
- Time I spend outside
- Time meditating
- Time spent sitting vs standing/moving
- Sugar and salt intake
- Days working 8-10 hours (this may be another “quota” type goal)
- Time spent cooking (as opposed to meals cooked, this would measure actual time spent in the kitchen cooking)
- Time spent cleaning
- Days since my last cigarette (*not* doing something can be a good habit too!)
- Emails / chat messages sent
I’ll try to think of more, but these are all things I would like to build good, healthy habits around.
Hi Product Hunt!
Over the last couple of years, I’ve embraced the monthly challenge.
Dry December (crazy), No Spend November (super hard), No TV June (easy peasey), walk every day, do abs exercises every day… … you get the idea.
I like challenges for their ability to bring focus, jumpstart a new habit, or just do something hard.
@duilen and I built The Monthly Challenge App over the holidays so that we can collectively tackle goals.
Today, we have one group challenge running - do pushups daily. The intention is to add additional challenges for physical, personal, and professional goals.
One thing that was very important to me in building this app is to celebrate all wins, no matter how small. Consistency is key, but missing a day or partial meeting your goal is no problem.
This mentality is built into the interface.
We have a long way to go but in the last two days, we’ve already collectively completed over 1,400 pushups.
I hope you join us!
Evy
@duilen@evylyons another reminder that I should be doing more pushups! Just joined and set a lower than 100 per day goal. Baby steps. Mobile onboarding is smooth. Great time of year for an app like this!
@evylyons@davidsmooke nice! I'm glad we made the goal configurable instead of arbitrarily making a 100 daily pushup goal for everyone. A lot of people are setting goals between 10-50 pushups. Maybe the default should have been 25-50.
@evylyons@duilen kinda like the customization - like how a golfing handicap can make the game feel collaborative even if the skill level of the players varies greatly. My gut is that ppl with high pushup goal are more likely to track their progress than ppl with a low pushup goal.
@duilen@davidsmooke So glad you are on board! I am adamant that people set their own goals and also we want to make sure that 100% consistency isn't required. I don't believe success in these things is binary.
I love the idea of the product, especially the collaborative aspect. Makes you feel like you're part of a team! Maybe this will finally get me up and moving :)
