Christian Lowe
Hi everyone, I'm the founder of The Green Book Project 📗. We launched The Green Book Project on the Apple App Store back at the end of 2020 when it was still just a side project. Fast-forward to today, and we have over 5,000+ users across the US & Canada! This is our story: ⛴ During my senior year of college, I had the unique experience of traveling the world on a study abroad program called Semester at Sea. It was the best four months of my life, but at the same time, I noticed something wrong. 👨‍👨‍👧‍👦  As I traveled to 12 countries with the most diverse friend group I'd ever had, I noticed that my friends who were women or queer constantly had to deal with mistreatment and discrimination because of their identities. ❓ As a Black Man who grew up in the Deep South, these uncomfortable and sometimes scary situations felt all too familiar. And it left me wondering, "what if there was an app my friends and I could use to avoid these situations and find places where we're actually welcome?" 🧾 Not long after this, I learned about an old publication that used reader submissions to help Black travelers avoid discrimination during the Jim Crow era. 💡 And I realized that my friends and I needed one today. Thus, The Green Book Project was born. 📲 The Green Book Project is a mobile app that helps people from marginalized groups find inclusive businesses and avoid discrimination. We're a crowdsourced reviews platform (like Yelp!) where users can rate and review businesses based on how inclusive they are and warn others to steer clear if a business is particularly unsafe or unwelcoming. 😊 We're so excited for the Product Hunt community to check out what we've built and I would love any feedback you can give on how we can improve our app!

I really lean on products like this these days. Its so helpful to know places I can go and not worry about a negative customer experience. Having like minded folks share their experiences is super helpful, and what I like best about social media: focusing on the positives and learning from each other. I think this is also a great chance for businesses to get insight into how to improve their culture for customers from underrepresented backgrounds.
Yoshika Lowe
@abadesi Thank you Abadesi for your support! That is exactly what our roadmap entails-- helping businesses improve their culture for customer service to marginalized folks. With our restorative approach, we will help businesses that need to improve their customer service (based on user ratings and reviews) by offering them tools to train their staff and improve their interactions with underrepresented groups, which will lead to better customer service for all! We hope you will share our app with all of your friends and networks!
