The best designers are effective *outside* of Figma. But how do they achieve that? Learn 27 actionable lessons on communication, persuasion, influence, decision-making, productivity, and more.
Today I'm launching my new book 🎉
The best designers are making an impact *outside* of Figma. But how do they achieve that?
I spent half a year describing 27 ways to help designers increase their impact on product, organization, themselves, and the world, including:
- Selling your ideas more effectively
- Building up your influence
- Building a relationship with your manager
- Making better and faster decisions
- What designers regret in their careers
- How designers (do not) become wealthy
- Building a career that does good for the world
- Where and from whom to learn design
- and more…
I also invited design leaders who worked at Etsy, Stripe, Webflow, Shopify, Adobe, and The Wall Street Journal to share what helps designers to be more effective at work and their careers.
The results are available in my book now. Happy reading!
Congratulations on the launch of your new book, Artiom! 📚
It sounds like you've compiled a wealth of valuable insights for designers looking to make a broader impact beyond their design tools.
I'm particularly interested in the section about building a career that does good for the world.
Could you share a sneak peek into some of the strategies or advice you've gathered on that topic? 🤓
@kyrylosilin there are four levels on which you can positively impact the world as a designer from least to most impactful:
1. “Doing good” initiatives (team/company volunteering days, recycling programs, charity drives, etc)
2. Product and business initiatives — making positive changes through your company’s product or business. For example, this could include initiating features indicating the potential sustainability impact of users’ choices made within your product (like Kayak showing which flights have a higher CO2 impact).
3. Earning to give — maximizing your income to be able to donate a meaningful amount to effective charities.
4. Working for an organization trying to solve a highly critical problem for humanity.
In the book, I do a deep-dive into each one explaining how you can do it, case studies including from my own experience, showing how to find companies that solve meaningful problems, etc.
